hey all,
So I'm working on an app for an animal shelter. First of all, I'd like to put a little plug in for the shelter itself, it's absolutely fantastic. It's called the Animal Adoption Foundation, a no-kill dog and cat shelter serving the greater Cincinnati, Ohio area. If you get the chance, you should check them out and consider a donation. They're a great organization and they deserve your support.
So, this app I'm working on, it does a couple of cool, if simple things: first of all, it's a tabbed application and there are four tabs.
The first one is maps, hours, etc. in order to find the shelter. Basic stuff.
The second is where things get cool: It's a tab for viewing all the adoptable animals at the shelter. They already have an RSS feed with all the animals available, and I'll be tapping into that.
The third is all about going to be tapping into a different RSS feed of upcoming events.
And the final tab will be for volunteering or donating. It'll be simple, just opening the associated webpages from the AAF site.
Here's what I have done so far: the basic tabbed layout, preliminary placeholders and whatnot, and a very rough implementation of an RSS reader.
At the moment, what I'm struggling with is (I kid you not) getting GIMP to run on my macbook. It turns out it's not designed to run on Macs, still struggling with that detail.... I also can't figure out why, but whenever I tap a text field and the keyboard comes up, no matter how many times I hit the "done" button, I can't close the keyboard.
I'm going to start posting progress pics later, I just wanted to describe to you guys what's going through my head. Comment if anything is too geeky or unclear for you! I have serious problems communicating sometimes apparently, according to SOME people.
